Blessings Project Foundation, Inc is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization licensed in the state of North Carolina and operating from the office of 823 Reynolda, LLC, a special events space in Winston Salem. The tricky part is this: The foundation and the LLC function out of a space locally known as "Blessings." The building and the business that opened here in December 2000 was Blessings Antiques & Design, LLC. "Blessings was originally an antiques shop with a social conscience. We donated a percentage of every sale to what we called "life enhancing organizations", from AIDS Care Service to the Humane Society and Doctors Without Borders. We believed so strongly in this mission that even when there were no sales, we donated…in gratitude for being here. It became apparent as time went on that antiques were taking too much energy for not enough social capital in return and we decided to make the mission primary. In 2006 "Blessings" split into a business, 823 Reynolda, LLC, and the Blessings Project Foundation, Inc. whose mission is as follows:
823 Reynolda, LLC is located at 823 Reynolda Road, on the fringe of the historic West End of Winston Salem, NC. Built as a bottling plant for Dr. Pepper back in the 40's, the space has housed a variety of organizations over the years, from Parrish Tire to Planned Parenthood. Most recently, it was the West End Office Building. Somewhere along the way, someone more practical than us covered up the barrel vault ceiling and divided the interior into many small, windowless rooms that were easier to heat and cool. The changes we made during renovation in 2000 were primarily cosmetic, to expose the beautiful structural elements. The ceiling tin is original. The floor is pockmarked where machinery was once bolted down. There are certain charming irregularities which we treasure...like the stairway to nowhere and the second floor knee-window. A recent "upfit" has made the building fully handicapped accessible.
